Completed in 2021, the facility contains both a fire hall and community event center for the Zimmerman and Livonia communities.
Kodet worked with the City of Zimmerman and Livonia Township, an hour’s drive northwest of Minneapolis, to plan and design a combined fire station and event center. The existing fire station needed major repair to address water and structural challenges, plus the community lacked a space that could accommodate large events, so Kodet was engaged to incorporate these two unique programs together into a single community building. Zimmerman Livonia Fire District has a response area that covers 78 square miles, 12,000 residents, as well as mutual-aid service to surrounding communities. The department employs 30 on-call firefighters and a full-time fire chief.
The building is located to the west of the business district near the edge of town on a 9-acre site. The building combines both functions into a single facility but allows for the fire hall to remain secured and fully operational when a large event occurs in the adjacent space. A dedicated public entry allows access to both the event center and the fire hall. There is also a separate fire station entry for volunteer firefighters to quickly enter and respond to calls.
