University of Minnesota – St. Anthony Falls Laboratory

Minneapolis, MN

Kodet Architectural Group recently completed a Facility Assessment and Improvement Plan for the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory at the University of Minnesota.
Previously, Kodet designed an addition and remodeled this aging facility. When built, this high tech facility was one of the only two in the nation to provide a state-of-the-art laboratory and testing environment. Funded by the National Science Foundation, the facility utilizes the equipment in studying and teaching the affects of wind and water.

The building is on the National Register of Historic Places and is located in the historically industrial Mississippi Mile, so the design was reviewed and approved by both the Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission and the Minnesota Historical Society. The resulting architecture responds to the requirements of a lab facility while respecting the historic nature of the site.
