Kodet was commissioned by Minneapolis Public Schools to design a new building for Burroughs Community School at the site of the original facility. Historic details from that original school building are referenced in the new design and the nearby creek is a central element in the layout of the school. Spaces such as the media center and lunchroom are located so students can enjoy the views of this natural resource. With an established school population at this facility and a site shared with a city park facility, community input was very important. Spaces such as the gym, lunchroom and performance space are designed for easy evening access off a central lobby for post-event gatherings.
